A terrible tragedy occurred on Tuesday in a forest in the Gmünd district. A 72-year-old was doing forestry work there when the man was suddenly hit in the face by a tree trunk. The man died on the spot from his serious injuries.
The accident took place in the Waldviertel community of Reingers. As the 72-year-old had still not returned home by nightfall, his son went to investigate and discovered the accident victim in the woods.
Was doing forest work alone
According to the Lower Austria State Police Directorate, the forest ranger was hit in the face by a previously stuck tree trunk. The man was working alone in the forest; no one could come to his aid in time. The emergency physician who was alerted could only determine that the elderly person was dead.
