Mohamed al Bashir has stressed that the new authorities face “an enormous challenge” due to the situation in the country, and that the main goal is to “restore security and stability”.

Syria’s new interim prime minister Mohamed al Bashirpledged this Wednesday that the authorities established after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime will guarantee “the rights of all peoples and communities of Syria” and called on millions of Syrian refugees to return to the country.

Al Bashir, appointed on Tuesday during the day with a view to a interim period ending on March 1, 2025he stated in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that one of the authorities’ objectives is “achieving the return of the million Syrian refugees spread all over the world.” In his opinion, their human capital and experience will help “reboot” the country.

He also stressed that the new authorities are being confronted “a monumental challenge” by the situation in the country and has stated that “they inherit a bloated government full of corruption.” “The regime devoured itself, but in the meantime the people lived in poverty,” he explained.

He has emphasized that this is the main priority “Restore security and stability to all Syrian cities”because “people are exhausted by injustice and tyranny.”

In this sense, he has argued that “Syrians cannot live with the insecurity of essential services such as electricity, food and water.” “We are in a transitional government, but we have to start tackling these problems,” he said.
