The state wants to bring 150 nurses from Southeast Asia to Lower Austria and train them here. The FPÖ thinks this project is “completely wrong”.
After the corona, energy and price crisis, the next thing to come is the looming worry that hangs over Lower Austria like the sword of Damocles. Thousands of nurses will be needed in the coming years – but where do they come from? If the ÖVP gets its way, then out of Vietnam.
150 nurses
The state of Lower Austria is taking initiatives to make care jobs attractive to young people. “However, it will not be possible to train the necessary 9,500 nursing staff by 2030,” state councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister admitted on Wednesday. 150 nurses from Vietnam should now be the solution. You will study German for three semesters at the university in Hanoi and then transfer to the University of Applied Sciences in Krems for a degree in nursing.
FPÖ criticizes the project
Teschl-Hofmeister did not mention any costs for the time being. Already the Freedomists: “This ÖVP project is all wrong,” scolded FPN chairman Udo Landbauer: “We would need the 4.2 million the project costs to pay the local nurses in line with the performance.” The Chamber of Labor also shows a lack of understanding for “care from Vietnam”, instead you need to get more people to come back and switch to the profession.
