A 51-year-old woman from the Waldviertel fell twice with a supposedly expensive art collection. At first she paid too much for it, but 18 years later she was fooled again when she sold it. A total of 40,000 euros has disappeared…
These criminals apparently have good memories. Because 18 years after a Waldviertel woman (51) was scammed once, the fraudsters struck again. In 2006, the woman bought ten collections of books, CDs and facsimiles from strangers. However, given the value of these items, she was told a fairy tale.
A contract with consequences
About two years ago she wanted to give it up again. She was visited at home by a supposed art expert who persuaded the 51-year-old to sign a contract in which he would be instructed to sell the items. This cost the woman approximately 6,000 euros. The condition: She will get this amount back if the man fails to sell the collections.
Two so-called colleagues of the ‘expert’ even recently contacted her to refund the money. To transfer it, she must enter her PIN into a cell phone app. As a result, the men managed to transfer another 999 euros. However, the fraud victim did not receive any books, etc. back.
In total, the woman suffered damage of 40,000 euros. The police are investigating.
