From the point of view of the police, the Vienna Danube Island Festival was a relatively quiet one, albeit busy one. The Ministry of the Interior on Monday reported 64 charges under the Criminal Code, nine arrests under the Criminal Code and six under the Code of Criminal Procedure.
When police officers intervened on the festival site, it involved drug-related crime, bodily harm, sexual harassment, aggressive behavior and sex offences. Among other things – as reported – two Syrian citizens have been taken off the road by the Task Force to Combat Street Crime (EGS) for sexual harassment using a drone.
“Thanks to the good cooperation with the organizer, the flow of visitors could be directed to the festival site in an orderly manner,” it says. Despite the great interest from visitors, there were no significant incidents on arrival and departure of festival guests.
Minister of the Interior thanks emergency services
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) thanked “all the police officers who were on duty last weekend for their cautious behavior”. The Danube Island Festival is one of the most challenging events of the year. At the largest open-air festival in Europe, about 680 officers were on duty over the three days.
