On Friday evening, a 26-year-old driver drove his vehicle off the road in Pirching am Grapeberg (Southeast Styria district) and crashed head-on into a tree. The car immediately started burning.
That was at the last second: around 8:30 p.m., a 25-year-old from the South-East Styrian district drove his car north on a municipal road from Pirching am Grapeberg. Suddenly, for unknown reasons, the Styrian drove off the right side of the road into a wooded area and crashed head-on into a tree.
Good luck in case of bad luck
The seriously injured man was unable to free himself from his damaged car. Fortunately, two drivers following behind noticed the accident and didn’t hesitate for a second. They pulled the injured man from the wreckage and administered first aid measures until the emergency doctor arrived.
“At the last second”
“The accident vehicle then started to burn en masse,” said Sabri Yorgun, spokesperson for the Styrian police. “It was really a last-minute rescue,” emphasizes FF operations manager Patrick Pichler. The mission for him and his comrades was a great challenge. “The car had a full tank of petrol and continued to burn for a long time despite the fire-fighting foam.”
The 25-year-old was taken to the LKH University Hospital in Graz by the Red Cross. Nothing was known about his current condition on Saturday.
