From the beginning there was little hope, now there is sad certainty at last. The 19-year-old Syrian, who was aborted in mid-June in the Inn in the Tyrolean Unterland, was found dead last weekend at the power plant in Kirchbichl (Kufstein district).
The scenes that took place in Kundl on June 12 were tragic. The young asylum seeker spent the day with two family members (20 and 30 years old) on the banks of the Inn near the Kundl sports field. When his brother-in-law and brother didn’t put their feet in the water until around 5:15 p.m., the 19-year-old decided to go for a swim in the Inn, which was only around 10 degrees cold. And that was the young man’s downfall.
Search operations failed
The 19-year-old was aborted and went down after about 100 meters. His companions immediately notified emergency services. But all searches were initially unsuccessful. The family of the missing person also searched for themselves. In vain.
The sad news came on Monday. A male body was found at the Inn power plant in Kirchbichl early in the morning of Saturday morning, police said. It turned out to be the 19-year-old Syrian.
