Safety at risk: Shots fired at a city sign pose a mystery

Date:

Unidentified people fired three shots last weekend. There is great anger at Markt Allhau about the vandalism.

The theft of place name signs and traffic signs often causes nuisance in Burgenland. There is currently renewed excitement about a city sign in the south of Burgenland. Last weekend, previously unknown perpetrators allegedly shot at the city sign in the 2,000-resident municipality of Markt Allhau. The perforated city sign was spotted Saturday by a passerby who reported the incident to the community.

Anger and incomprehension on the part of the mayor
According to initial findings, the shots were probably fired the day before, on Friday. Mayor Joachim Raser, usually very level-headed, is furious. Anger and especially incomprehension dominated his mood last weekend, because probably someone from his community took part in this “more than questionable action” during the night. “The bullet holes are clearly visible and indicate that the incident was caused by the use of a firearm,” the local chief said.

Police are asking for information from the public
The community has filed a complaint against unknown persons. Police are investigating serious damage to public property, but the motive remains a mystery. And the mayor also points out that “it is not only about material damage, but also about a potential threat to public safety.” The weapon used to fire the shots is still under investigation. Information should be sent to the Litzelsdorf police station on 0591331246 or to the municipal office.
