Dramatic moments in a settlement in Blumau-Meurißhof, Baden district: a car parked in front of a house had caught fire and the flames threatened to spread to the house. Neighbors managed to keep the fire under control until firefighters arrived.
It is still unclear why the car parked in front of the garage suddenly caught fire. Fortunately, neighbors noticed the fire in time, alerted the fire brigade and tried to contain the flames with hand fire extinguishers.
Gusts of wind make extinguishing fires difficult
Stormy winds further fanned the fire. Within a short time the car was completely on fire. “When we arrived, the flames were already several meters high,” says a firefighter. The fire had already spread to a waste container and the garage door and was threatening to spread to the front of the house.
Neighbors are heroes of the day
Although strong gusts of wind made extinguishing efforts difficult, local firefighters, supported by comrades from Teesdorf, quickly brought the fire under control.
The parked car burned completely, but there was considerably less damage to the buildings. “But one thing is certain: only the courageous action of the neighbors and the quick fire brigade can prevent something worse from happening,” emphasizes a spokesperson for the emergency services.
