They surrendered – Kiev accuses the Kremlin of killing prisoners of war

Date:

Ukraine has leveled serious accusations against Moscow’s military: a video shows how it killed sixteen Ukrainian prisoners of war who had previously surrendered. The Prosecutor General’s Office in Kiev said this could be a war crime.

The incident took place near the city of Pokrovsk on the Eastern Front, where the Russian army had stepped up its attacks. A video shared on social media shows the POWs being literally executed as they “emerge from a forest under enemy control,” Ukraine’s justice system said in a statement.

It is said that soldiers were killed at close range
“After they stood in line, the occupiers deliberately opened fire on them. The wounded who still showed signs of life were killed at close range with an automatic weapon,” the report said.

The Attorney General speaks about Moscow’s “conscious policy”.
The judiciary announced that the incident would be investigated. If the allegations are true, this would be the worst case of killing Ukrainian POWs at the front, according to Attorney General Andriy Kostin. “This is a deliberate policy of the Russian military and political leadership,” Kostin said on X.

Ukraine documented 130,000 Russian war crimes
Moscow has not yet responded to the allegations, but generally denies committing war crimes in Ukraine. However, this is not the only case that Ukrainian prosecutors have drawn attention to. In September, they said they were also investigating the deaths of at least 73 Ukrainian prisoners. Ukraine says more than 130,000 war crimes committed by the Kremlin have been documented since the Russian invasion, Reuters reported.
