Novichok suspicion – Mother of Kremlin critic poisoned in Berlin?

Date:

The mother of Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Mursa was hospitalized in the German capital. The police investigation is in full swing – according to a spokesperson there is a risk of murder.

The woman suspected that she had been poisoned in a clinic, the authorities announced on platform X on Tuesday. She was then transferred to the isolation ward of the Charité.

Russian Kremlin critic Kara-Mursa made it public that his mother was being treated at the Berlin Charité. The suspicion of poisoning and a heart attack was not confirmed, Kara-Mursa wrote on Telegram and X on Tuesday evening around 7 p.m.

The diagnosis probably did not come from the Charité
However, this diagnosis was apparently not made at the Charité. Charité spokesperson Markus Heggen told the German news agency that “one person” was only admitted to Charité’s special isolation department around 8 p.m. There the person is thoroughly examined. He declined to comment on their identities.

The Charité announced “The Charité’s special isolation department enables optimal medical care under the highest isolation conditions, even when contaminated with non-biological hazardous substances.”

Son has already survived poison attacks
The Tagesspiegel reported, citing security circles, that there was initially a suspicion of poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok. Heggen declined to comment.

Kara-Mursa is one of the most prominent Russian opposition figures. He was sentenced there in April 2023 to 25 years in camp on charges of high treason, but was released in August this year in a prisoner swap between Russia and the West and flown out of Russia. The now 42-year-old has already survived two poison attacks.
