The Executive has reversed its original plan to maintain discounts only for certain groups from January 1. Currently there is a 50% bonus, of which the state pays 30% and the Basque institutions 20%.
The Spanish government has agreed with Podemos to extend the universal public transport discounts, which have been in place since 2022 but whose validity originally ended on December 31, by six months, until June 30.
The council thus reverses the original plan of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, which intended to maintain the discounts in 2025, but only for certain groups.
There is currently a 50% bonus on the price of public transport, of which the state pays 30% and the Basque institutions 20%.
The Basque government and the provincial councils were waiting for the Spanish government’s decision to offer their own ‘road map’ regarding rebates.
Last November, the Basque Parliament approved a non-legal proposal urging Basque transport institutions and entities to maintain their 20% bonus on fares.
