Major search operation on Friday evening in Linz: A dementia patient (76) had disappeared from the Kepler University Hospital the evening before. A video shows him leaving the hospital. “We drove around until half past two in the morning,” says his daughter-in-law, who asks for help.
The 76-year-old has been missing from the Kepler University Hospital in Linz since around 5 p.m. on Thursday. The man suffers from dementia – of which the hospital was not aware – and was admitted to the emergency room. There was a lot going on there on Thursday with 280 patients and the 76-year-old must have left unnoticed. A video shows him leaving the hospital. There has been no trace of him since.
“He is 1.80 meters tall, has thinning white hair and a full white beard,” the daughter-in-law is now asking for help in the search. At the time of his disappearance, the 76-year-old was wearing black pants, a short shirt, a light brown sweater and a black jacket. The patient also has a venous catheter on his left hand.
Looking for emergency services and family
In addition to the police, the Red Cross also searched for the missing person on Friday evening: “Our sniffer dogs and the drone squad have been deployed,” said the “Krone” rescue team.
And the 76-year-old’s family was also out all night: “We drove around in cars until half past two in the morning, looking everywhere for him. We visited all the bars and public toilets in the area,” says his daughter-in-law. Public transport operators and taxi companies in Linz are also informed.
Shortly before 3 a.m., emergency services initially stopped the search without success, but continued early Friday morning.
Hospital employees are on their guard
All employees at Kepler University Hospital were also informed. Finally, it cannot be ruled out that the patient has returned and is staying in the large hospital complex. “We have sensitized the employees internally with a description of the person and a photo of the missing person,” the hospital says.
