Criminal search for a hostel in the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel! Hannes Roither (49), landlord of the ‘Mitten in der Welt’ inn, caught a criminal with multiple convictions at 6 a.m. while he was sleeping off his drunkenness in the hall. He was able to take a photo of him and immediately called the police.
It was not in Bethlehem, but in the Mühlviertel. And it was not a couple with a baby in their womb, but a multiple convicted burglar who found Roither at 6 am in the hall of his inn with the sounding name “Mitten in der Welt” in Neusserling, in the municipality of Herzogsdorf. The criminal ‘hostel search’ eventually ended in the ports.
“Suddenly I see that someone is lying there”
“After I got up, I went to the dining room. I actually always do that. Then I saw that the lights in the hall were still on. I thought my employees had forgotten to turn it off and went out into the hallway. Suddenly I see someone sleeping on the floor. I tried to wake the man up. He was very drunk,” says Roither, who also rents out rooms, about how the confrontation with the unwanted “guest” went: “I asked him what he wanted. “Yes, sleep,” the man said. I said it couldn’t be like that and that it was a violation. Then I wanted to know who he was. He gave me his wallet, but there was no ID and no money in it.”
The last prison sentence ended in early August
The ‘bed guest’ meanwhile fled. Roither took a photo of him from behind and alerted the police, who caught the suspect, a 28-year-old German, half an hour later. During the initial investigation it turned out that he already had a criminal record for similar offenses in Germany and Switzerland and that his last prison sentence to date only ended in early August 2024.
So far, twenty thefts, document suppression, burglaries and wallet thefts have been proven for the busy criminal in Austria. After consultation with the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office, he was taken to Linz prison.
