What’s going on in Russia? The Transbaikalia region in Siberia no longer wants to financially compensate soldiers who were injured and suffered permanent damage during the war in Ukraine.
It is well known that the Kremlin lures Russian men to their downfall with high financial incentives. However, it is likely that resources will gradually become scarce.
According to the Telegram channel Sibirski Express, regional compensation for war wounded – depending on the severity of the disability – has so far amounted to between 100,000 and 500,000 rubles (currently about 925 to 4,630 euros).

The local social ministry explained that the money would instead go towards medical treatment and care for the soldiers, as well as petrol money. Only in November did the Russian government, at the behest of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, decide to make differentiated payments to the injured at the national level. While the official justification for this was that seriously injured people would receive more money in the future, according to the media, many groups of injured people now receive lower compensation.
Russia has been waging its war of aggression against Ukraine for almost three years. According to Western estimates, more than 100,000 Russian soldiers have fallen and about 500,000 have been injured since then.
