A will was found in the car of the attacker from Magdeburg on Monday evening. His entire assets must therefore be transferred to the German Red Cross. It said there were no political messages in the document.
As Spiegel reported on Monday evening, the suspected attacker had rented the crime car more than a week earlier. As reported, Taleb A. drove his rented BMW into the Magdeburg Christmas market on Friday evening shortly after 7 p.m. and raced several hundred meters across the busy square. Five people were killed and 200 others were injured, about 40 seriously.
Apparently he expected to die himself. On Monday evening, investigators found a will in the rental car. Accordingly, the entire assets must be transferred to the German Red Cross after the psychiatrist’s death.

Moreover, A. had already written in a post on platform X in May that he expected to die “this year”. He seeks “justice,” no matter the cost. He also repeated this in private messages with other users, “Spiegel” reported.
Shortly before the incident, the police had contact
The “Welt” wrote that the suspected attacker had been treated for a mental illness. The Federal Criminal Investigation Department (BKA) therefore assumes that the perpetrator acted alone, without an explicit Islamist motive. He had been known to the BKA for some time. However, no hazardous conditions were identified last year, the report said.
Police contacted the suspect a few weeks before his death (see video above). Threat speeches were made in September 2023 and October 2024, Saxony-Anhalt’s Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang said. The conversations took place at a police station and at the man’s workplace. Among other things, there must be a connection with a threat. The Saudi-born man is accused of threatening his former lawyer. An investigation was also opened for defamation and sexual offences.
Clues confused?
The German Bundestag has now stated that it wants to provide clarity as to why indications of possible dangers from Taleb A. have not been investigated. The deputy chairman of the Bundestag’s Home Committee, Lars Castellucci, announced on Monday that he would request a special meeting.
