An Advent wreath caught fire in Piesendorf (Pinzgau) on Tuesday morning around 2 a.m. The fire caused smoke to burn through parts of the stairs and 43 hotel guests had to be evacuated from their rooms via terraces and balconies.
An employee tried to fight the flames with a fire extinguisher and suffered minor injuries. The fire brigade was eventually able to extinguish the fire quickly.
As the Piesendorf volunteer fire brigade writes in its operational report, all evacuated guests were registered by name and compared with the occupancy list.
Holidaymakers accommodated in fire station
While the fire brigade ventilated the stairwell, the holidaymakers were housed in an adjacent building and in the local fire station. Shortly afterwards, however, they were able to move back into their accommodation.
