By Christmas at the latest, American Airlines will be confronted with enormous technical problems. All flights are said to be affected. The airline has the largest aircraft fleet in the world.
A technical problem had major consequences for the air traffic of the world’s largest airline in the US on Tuesday. As the company and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on their websites, all of the airline’s flights had to be temporarily suspended nationwide. The company’s shares responded premarket with a decline of 3.8 percent.
“Safety is top priority”
“An estimated time frame is not given, but we are trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the airline said in a response to a stranded passenger on platform X (formerly Twitter).
In an official statement, the airline emphasizes: “Your safety is our top priority. Once the problem is resolved, we will get you safely to your destination.”
Huge aircraft fleet hit
The airline operates the largest aircraft fleet in the world, transporting over half a million passengers every day. During the Christmas period, this number increases to around 6,500 flights per day due to increased travel activity. The current disruption is affecting countless travelers in the middle of the already tense travel season.
The company told ABC News: “Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
Intensive search for cause
The exact background of the technical problem is not yet known. The FAA and the company are working closely to determine the cause and restore flight operations as quickly as possible. Travelers were urged to regularly check their flight times and prepare for delays.
