Deadly leisure accident on Sunday in the Tyrolean Oberland: A downhill mountain biker fell in Nauders (Landeck district) and rammed a branch into his upper body. The injured man drove into the valley himself, where he was then taken to hospital by the alarmed rescue services. Also in Fiss, a downhiller was injured in a fall.
The accident in Nauders happened around 2:15 pm: the 34-year-old German was riding his mountain bike on the so-called 3 land path when he suddenly fell. “He Rammed” a branch under his left shoulder about two inches deep in his torso,” police said.
Even drove to the valley
After the accident, the downhiller first pushed his bike before deciding to descend into the valley under his own power. “There he received first aid from the alarmed rescue service and was then taken to Zams hospital,” the researchers said.
Fell after jumping
Only 20 minutes earlier a descent had already taken place in Fiss (also in the Landeck district). A 28-year-old German fell after a jump and suffered serious injuries. He was flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital in Zams.
