After being temporarily removed from office, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has again ignored a call from law enforcement authorities.
As Yonhap news agency reported, Yoon did not appear at the relevant corruption investigation agency as required. Yoon had not responded to a first summons a week ago.
Martial law declared
Yoon was removed from office by parliament in mid-December after unexpectedly declaring martial law and lifting it hours later after massive resistance. The opposition accuses Yoon of violating the constitution.
The trial starts on December 27
South Korea’s Constitutional Court must make a final decision on Yoon’s future. It can confirm the impeachment or declare it unconstitutional. The court has determined that the trial will begin on December 27.
“Anti-state forces”
Yoon defended his decision, saying he declared martial law to protect the nation. His political opponents are ‘anti-state forces’ who paralyze government work and disrupt the country’s constitutional order.
