The journey to their winter holiday ended fatally for a German family in the Tyrolean lowlands in the early morning hours on Thursday: the father (53) lost control of the vehicle, after which it left the highway and crashed into a tree. The parents and their three children in the back seat had to be taken to hospital.
The terrible accident happened shortly after 5 a.m. on the A12 Inntal highway near Langkampfen (Kufstein district). The German holidaymakers were on their way to Innsbruck when the 53-year-old driver and father lost control of the family van.
His 44-year-old wife was in the front passenger seat and the three children, aged between 7 and 13, were in the backseat, police said in response to questions from ‘Krone’. The car eventually left the highway and crashed into a tree at full speed.
Whole family rescued to hospital
The driver and his wife were injured; how serious these were is currently unknown. She and the children were taken to Kufstein Hospital for further examination.
According to police, the car was a total loss. It was secured and recovered by a towing company.
