Italy’s oldest woman died on Christmas night at the age of 114 near Ravenna. Claudia Baccarini Baldi, who has been widowed since 1998, raised ten children and had dozens of grandchildren and fifty great-grandchildren.
Claudia Baccarini Baldi was one of the ten oldest people in the world, the daily newspaper ‘Il Resto del Carlino’ reported. She was born on October 13, 1910 in Faenza, northern Italy, and died there on the night of December 25.
“She was healthy until the end”
The Italian lived through two world wars, the beginning of the new millennium, survived the corona pandemic and recently two floods that hit her city hard. Her husband Pietro Baldi was mayor of Faenza 70 years ago, from 1951 to 1956. She was healthy until the end, her grandchildren said. She died peacefully in her home.
“Maybe God has forgotten me,” said Claudia Baccarini Baldi on the occasion of her last birthday.
