After the fire in a farm in Lannach (Deutschlandsberg district) on December 25, the cause of the fire has been clarified: a technical defect on the ground floor may have caused the fire.
Two pigs and a sheep died in the fire. A local volunteer suffered minor smoke inhalation. According to the Styrian State Police, the total damage could not yet be quantified on Friday.
The fire was noticed by a neighbor around 8 a.m. on Christmas Day. When the police arrived, the building was already completely engulfed in flames. The roof structure of the farm building had to be removed using two excavators to remove about 100 hay bales from the top floor and extinguish it in a controlled manner.
Neighborhood helps
In an interview with the ‘Krone’ the next day, the owner of the farm was shocked by the dramatic events, but he also saw a glimmer of hope: ‘The support from the neighborhood and circle of friends is overwhelming.’
