There are 8.156 billion of us! – 82 million more people in the world than in 2023

Date:

According to one estimate, there will be 8.156 billion people living on Earth at New Year’s Eve. This is approximately 82 million more people than exactly a year ago (8.083 billion).

The number of people worldwide exceeded eight billion in November 2022. The UN expects that the 9 billion mark could be exceeded in 2037. This is expected to reach ten billion in the second half of this century.

  • According to the DSW, the absolute number of people is constantly increasing, but this increase is becoming increasingly slower. Currently, women worldwide have an average of 2.2 children.
  • According to DSW, the population is growing rapidly, especially in Africa: the population there is expected to more than double in the next twenty years. By the end of the century, Africa’s population is expected to grow from the current 1.2 billion people to 3.4 billion people.

With a peak of ten billion
The foundation assumes that the world population will reach a peak of approximately ten billion people in mid-2080. “Then, according to predictions, a declining number of births plus a growing number of deaths will cause the world’s population not only to age, but also to shrink,” the report says.

Sex education is essential
Women play a key role in the number of births: they must be able to determine their own lives and family planning. Education and sex education are essential so that girls and young women can decide “when and with whom to have how many children”.
