The violent criminal who wanted to kill an opponent in front of a nightclub in the center of Salzburg asked for leniency. However, a panel of judges at the Higher Regional Court ultimately confirmed the amount of the sentence.
De Flachgauer (28) has already had to appear before a jury twice – due to the annulment of the first verdict. The jury also found guilty of attempted murder at the second trial. The sentence was 13 years in prison at the beginning of March.
Cut with broken wine glass
The background was the bloody act on November 3, 2022 in front of a restaurant in Salzburg: the 28-year-old cut his opponent’s neck with a broken wine glass – a life-threatening wound 15 centimeters long and two centimeters deep. On Wednesday, the convicted man asked for a reduced sentence during the appeal procedure: “I am very sorry.”
The prosecutor and defense had previously submitted arguments. However, it had no effect on the Judge Senate of the Higher Regional Court: ultimately the 13-year prison sentence was upheld.
