The slopes at Fanningberg in Lungau are still being used after the scandal surrounding a destroyed lift route. According to reports from the area, virtually no one would pay attention to the ban. And how welcome are tourers in other areas? A “crown” check.
Ski tourers are still unloaded at Fanningberg. The “Krone” reported: Since the route of the Moserkopf lift was affected by the increased ascents, the mountain railways angrily announced a strict ban. Few people are impressed by it. “There are a lot of tourers on the road. The ban is skillfully ignored or circumvented through forest climbs,” said a winter sports enthusiast this weekend.
The weather situation, with sometimes little snow on the open terrain and a lot of wind, is currently also attracting many tourers to the slopes.
Tour check: Which rules apply
In the neighboring Lungau ski area, the Speiereck, the cable cars take a different approach. “We allow tourers to be on the slopes every Wednesday and Friday until 8:30 p.m.,” says Philipp Steinlechner. Ski tourers are also tolerated during the day for the rest of the week. There are also no costs associated with parking.
The same applies to the Saalbach-Hinterglemm World Cup community: tourers are only asked to climb on the edges of the pistes. Even smaller ski areas such as the Wildkogel in Oberpinzgau can still handle the crowds without bans or own tickets. Every Wednesday there is a tour party at Schweinis Downhill Bar.
Where tour tickets are offered
In the popular ski area Lofer the tour ticket costs 9 euros, in Werdenweng 12 euros. In the Gasteinertal there are several designated piste tour routes for 16.50 euros. The Graukogel, on the other hand, is free.
Athletes in Flachauwinkl have to dig deep: on the Shuttleberg the ticket costs 25 euros, but two lift rides are included. However, in neighboring Zauchensee, ski touring on the slopes remains prohibited.
