Nearly 3.5 tons of cocaine were discovered in a banana shipment in Portugal. The drugs were seized during a police operation at the port of Setubal, about 40 kilometers south of Lisbon, police said on Monday.
The cocaine was hidden in banana crates in the hold of a cargo ship. According to the police, the ship is regularly used to transport fruit from Latin America to Europe.
According to the findings of the Portuguese police, the drugs would be supplied to several European countries. The investigation was supported by the British NCA.
No arrests for now
No arrests were initially made. But the drug smugglers are being sought, the head of the Portuguese police told CNN Portugal.
