A serious traffic accident occurred in Montafon on Monday afternoon. For an unknown reason, an 18-year-old drove his vehicle into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the car of a 34-year-old.
Attempts to avoid the oncoming elderly driver, who was driving on Montafonerstrasse (L188) around 1:45 p.m., failed: both cars collided. The 34-year-old’s vehicle was thrown off the road by the force of the impact, overturned and ultimately landed on its roof. The two occupants were able to free themselves from the car.
The 18-year-old failed to do so. He became trapped in the car after it also left the road and crashed into a wall. While the young man had to be freed by the fire brigade, his passenger managed to get out of the demolished car on his own.
The two drivers and the 18-year-old’s passenger were injured but were able to be contacted. They were taken by ambulance to the state hospital in Feldkirch. The alcohol tests for both drivers were negative.
There was significant damage to both cars. They had to be towed away. The L188 was closed to all traffic in the vicinity of the accident location from 1:45 PM to 3:00 PM. The Bludenz fire brigade, an emergency medical helicopter, employees of the Bludenz Red Cross and the Bludenz police were present.
