Firecrackers, rockets and other fireworks! There are all kinds of dangers lurking when using pyrotechnic objects. The Tyrolean police warned about this again on the occasion of New Year. How dangerous it can be became apparent on Tuesday evening in Hopfgarten im Brixental (Kitzbühel district).
A fire probably broke out in Hopfgarten on Monday shortly before 11 p.m. as a result of a New Year’s Eve rocket. Passers-by noticed a blazing fire on the football field and raised the alarm.
Investigations are underway
When they arrived on scene, firefighters discovered that a high jump athletics facility established there was on fire. The Florianijüngers were eventually able to extinguish the fire using heavy breathing equipment. The facility was completely destroyed by the fire.
The damage is likely to be significant; a new construction of such a system can cost as much as 10,000 euros. The investigation is ongoing.
