In Berlin, residents of several neighborhoods were cut off from their water supply on New Year’s Eve. In several neighborhoods with a total of hundreds of thousands of inhabitants, there was at least temporarily no water from the tap on New Year’s Eve.
According to the Berlin Fire Brigade and Berliner Wasserbetriebe, a major break in a water pipe in the Wedding district was responsible for the outage, which apparently affected “large parts of Berlin”.
The fire brigade writes that it had two emergency vehicles on duty. The water company also explained that its technicians were tasked with stopping the flow of water from the faulty pipe and allowing water pressure to slowly build up again.
As the Tagesspiegel wrote, citing the Berlin fire brigade, fire protection on New Year’s Eve was initially not compromised because the fire trucks’ tanks were filled with water.
