Two people were killed and 19 others injured when a plane crashed in Fullerton, California on Thursday. A surveillance camera captured the small plane crashing onto the roof of a factory building and exploding in a fireball (see video above).
Eleven people were taken to hospitals, while eight people were treated at the scene and then transferred to home care, Fullerton police said. The two dead are believed to be the occupants of the plane.
At the time the plane crashed into the building of a furniture manufacturer, at least 200 people were working in the company’s halls, according to the AP news agency. Dozens of workers have been rescued, it is said.
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff
According to flight tracking service FlightAware, the plane crashed less than two minutes after takeoff from Fullerton Municipal Airport, six miles from Disneyland.
Security camera footage from Rucci Forged, a wheel manufacturer across the street, shows the plane fell on its side as it crashed into the building, leaving a hole in the flat roof.
The US Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the scene
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) immediately began an on-site investigation. The cause of the crash was initially unknown. According to the Los Angeles Times newspaper, audio recordings shortly before the crash suggested that something had suddenly gone wrong during the flight.
According to US media reports, the crashed aircraft was a single-engine, four-seat low-wing aircraft of the Van’s Airkraft RV-10 type, which is sold in the United States as a self-assembly kit.
