An avalanche occurred on Sunday morning in the ski area of Lech (Vorarlberg) – on the “Mohnenmäder” slope. A ski guide noticed a snow patch and raised the alarm.
It was about 65 meters wide, two meters high and was located near the Steinmähderbahn mountain station. Teams, including the Lech mountain rescue service, Alpine police and avalanche dogs, searched for possible buried victims to be on the safe side.
The entire avalanche cone was searched with reconnaissance chains. Finally the signal was given: no one had been buried. The snow layer probably came loose in a steep gully below the Mohnenfluh and therefore moved the ski slope. On the day of the accident, the avalanche warning level in the Arlberg area at this altitude was 2.
Avalanches only occurred in Vorarlberg on Saturday and Friday. On Saturday, a ski guide was buried and injured in Schröcken. There were no people in the Lech ski area at the time of the accident on Friday.
