Austria increases aid to Ukraine and Moldova by another ten million euros from the Foreign Disaster Fund (AKF). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a statement on Saturday.
Austrian state aid now amounts to over 250 million euros. “The people of Ukraine need our support even in the third year of the war,” said Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP). That is why we invest in humanitarian aid.
“Russian missiles and threats have been raining down on Ukrainian citizens for more than 120 weeks,” Schallenberg continued. One man is responsible for the war: Russian President Vladimir Putin. Schallenberg: “He also has the power to end it today: by withdrawing all his troops from Ukraine and stopping the attacks.”
14 million people need humanitarian assistance
According to the United Nations, more than 14 million people in Ukraine needed acute humanitarian assistance to survive, including more than three million children. The Republic of Moldova has hosted 130,000 refugees, making it the most displaced population in proportion to its population.
The AKF money will be used for medical care, food, drinking water and accommodation, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) said in the statement: “This easily accessible aid shows Austria’s continued willingness to help and to stand in solidarity with Ukraine as well Ukraine. , and that’s why it’s even more important.”
Six million of the amount raised will go to emergency aid for neighbors in need. Two million euros each will be made available to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
