Odyssey in Innsbruck – passengers are stuck at the airport for hours

Date:

All those passengers who wanted to travel from Innsbruck to London on the morning flight from Innsbruck to London must have good nerves during today’s holiday. They have been stuck since about 10 a.m. due to a technical defect. The “Krone” is in contact with an affected passenger. She describes, among other things, that engineers had to be flown in!

The easy jet flight from Innsbruck Airport to London-Gatwick was originally scheduled for 10:55 am. Most passengers have been at the airport since about 10am. “It was initially said that this flight would be delayed by about 30 minutes,” says a Tyrolean woman (name known to the editors) in an interview with the “Krone”. Then boarding began, the first bus and passengers drove from the terminal to the plane. “But then he was sent back and everyone had to get out. “It was said that the plane had a technical defect and that we had to wait for an engineer,” said the person affected. “I just wonder what broke in this short time? The plane landed in Innsbruck shortly before without any problems.”

“Engineer must be flown in”
The next announcement caused despair. “The engineer needs to be flown from London to Innsbruck; he will arrive on the next plane. Because in Innsbruck there is only one engineer from the airline Tui, but he has nothing to do with the easy jet plane,” says the passenger.

So the waiting continued. The next easy jet was also late and the pilot even had to do an extra lap before landing – mainly because of the Föhn storm. This plane landed around 4:00 PM. “We saw three technicians go to our machine. That of course gave hope,” says the Tyrolean. Another simple jet landed and took off again at 6:15 p.m.

Next hope is 8:45 p.m
What happens next? “They announced around 6pm that they would now send a plane from London that had just landed from Cyprus. This would land in Innsbruck at 8.45 pm and then travel to London,” says the passenger. The wait continues – and the passengers’ nerves fade from minute to minute.

“We have been at the airport since 10am. Since we were already boarding and our suitcases were on the plane, we were stuck at the gate. They did let us go to the main counter, but we couldn’t quite get out into the fresh air. Otherwise the waiting time wouldn’t have been so bad,” the Tyrolean explains, “we all received a nine-euro voucher from the airline during the day so we could buy a pizza slice and a coffee. But considering the prices at the airport we had to pay extra. But at least this service was available.” A voucher was issued to all those affected in the evening – for 27 euros.

“Everyone is busy in one way or another”
It must be emphasized that all passengers were extremely positive and calm despite the exceptional situation. “Everyone is busy reading and using their mobile phone or iPad in one way or another. The children also behave very well,” says the Tyrolean.

They have already made the stranded people smart when it comes to financial compensation. “This airline is actually known for giving you money back in such cases. If the flight is delayed more than five hours, up to 400 euros per passenger will be reimbursed. “That is of course a small consolation,” says the Tyrolean.
