Hardly a day goes by without news of new burglaries involving poisonous and corrosive nitric acid in Vienna. During the holidays, apartments on Landstrasse, in Favoriten and in Leopoldstadt were gutted and in recent days a house on Landstrasse was hit again.
Now fear is also spreading in Göllnergasse in Erdberg. At the beginning of January, a previously unknown gang unknowingly marked all the doors with extremely thin glue threads in the stairwell of a building from the sixties or seventies. The goal: to observe which apartments are currently empty of people.
Nitric acid is dangerous for everyone involved
A little later, specifically between January 4 and 6, the burglars returned. They spotted poisonous and corrosive nitric acid in the door lock of an abandoned apartment. After the castle was dissolved, the gang was able to quietly search for gold and cash in the building. There were traces of an attempted burglary in two other apartments. Meanwhile, the criminals also run the risk of residents of the house or emergency services injuring themselves from the acid.
Are Georgians behind the burglaries again?
A scam that has kept Vienna – and especially the third district – in suspense since 2022. 95 apartments have now fallen victim to burglars. And the series continues.
As reported, apartments on Landstrasse, Favoriten and Leopoldstadt were only broken into during the holidays. As in 2022 and 2023, Georgians are suspected of being the perpetrators. If you find glue threads on your door or liquid on your door lock, contact the police immediately!
