After his escape from UKH – Where did the Salzburg hospital prisoner go?

Date:

There is still no trace of him: as reported, a Kosovan escaped during an examination at the Salzburg accident hospital. The man is actually in custody. So far, only one prisoner has managed to escape from the Puch-Urstein prison.

Where is he? How could he go into hiding so quickly? Almost two days later, the researchers are also addressing these questions. As reported, a prisoner (25) escaped on Tuesday during an X-ray examination at the accident hospital in Salzburg. The Kosovar took advantage of the moment and was able to shake off his prison guards after a short chase.

“The search continues,” said the police in Puch-Urstein prison in unison. The man is actually in custody for various property crimes. It is generally rated as “not dangerous”.

“Cases like this are extremely rare,” said Chief Inspector Johannes Ebner of Puch-Urstein prison. According to data from the Ministry of Justice, one prison break and three so-called escapes have occurred in Salzburg since 2020. What does that mean? These happen when detainees – as in the current case – have to be taken to an external hospital for examination or have to work outside prison walls.

A look at the ‘Krone’ archive clearly shows that escaped convicts repeatedly make headlines.

  • In 2019, a prisoner escaped while on release. The police were eventually able to arrest Pongau in a hotel in Salzburg.
  • The decomposed body of a man was found in an apartment in Salzburg-Taxham in June 2017. A released prisoner was an urgent suspect – he was friends with the dead man.
  • In 2012, a Moroccan also escaped from the accident hospital in Salzburg. The man was still handcuffed when he broke free from his guards and ran away.
  • A suspected rapist and robber managed to escape from the Christian Doppler Clinic in 2012.
