Apparently three Carinthians from the Wolfsberg district had been causing mischief in their own hunting grounds for a long time: numerous hunting trophies were seized during house searches.
In September 2024, the strange case started due to suspicion. At the time, a 69-year-old man, a 66-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman (all from the Wolfsberg district) were allegedly hunting illegally. a red deer stag with twelve ends and one in their own hunting grounds. Between the ages of seven and ten they would have taken a trophy and the game meat.
This is an interference with foreign hunting and fishing laws: “The total damage currently amounts to several thousand euros, although greater damage cannot be excluded,” says the state police. The police investigated this case and the Klagenfurt public prosecutor ultimately approved a search.
Animal trophies and arsenal of weapons seized
However, what the officers found during the searches of two residential buildings on Tuesday was unusual: “The trophy of the illegally shot red deer and about 15 other chamois and red deer trophies, a capercaillie trophy, about 20 – 30 shooting sticks, ten hunting rifles and a few hundred bullets. Ammunition and black powder have been seized,” police said.
In addition, the rifles were only partially registered and the ammunition was not properly and safely stored. In addition to a weapons ban, the three suspects must also expect a report.
