35A-“Bar lock” – Viennese bus station barricaded with bicycle bars

Many people in Döbling are not very fond of the new cycle path on Krottenbachstrasse in Vienna anyway, but the finishing touch made the people in the neighborhood finally believe that they were dreaming: freshly constructed ones were suddenly found in front of the 35A Station Kratzlgasse on Wednesday Wheel bars so that boarding and alighting the bus was only possible at the front door – if the driver was accurate to the millimeter when driving to the station.

The telephones in the district and town hall were red hot
District Leader Daniel Resch’s phones were ringing hot. He saw confirmation that the cycle path was “sinfully expensive and poorly planned from start to finish”: “The whole chaos has now reached a further peak with this travesty!” During construction work, Resch warns that these types of things can be prevented. He sees a suitable “encore” for the controversial project.

…and the hangers are gone again
However, the absurd barricades in front of the bus station were only there for a short time, because the telephones in the Department of Infrastructure Councilor Ulli Sima also overheated. It soon became apparent that the external company that had been commissioned to install the brackets had apparently misread the plans.

The city checked the situation “as soon as it became known and immediately removed the bicycle racks – which was done within an hour,” emphasized the road construction department of the city hall opposite the “Krone”. The company must bear the costs. The “comfortable boarding and disembarking of passengers throughout the entire stopping area” was “possible again from the afternoon”.
