As a precaution, Fressnapf is recalling 18 types of dog and cat food. The reason is a possible salmonella contamination that a supplier discovered during a random check. Affected parcels – also in Austria – can be returned at any branch and the purchase price will be refunded.
Fressnapf Tirfutter GmbH has launched an extensive recall campaign for numerous types of dry food for cats and dogs from the MultiFit and Premiere brands.
Salmonella detected in livestock feed
The reason for this recall is the detection of salmonella in the affected products. The recall affects a total of 18 different products. The contamination was discovered during a supplier’s own inspection.
Fressnapf emphasizes that the recall is “preventive” and does not necessarily mean that “every product” is contaminated. However, the company cannot rule out isolated contamination. The affected items are listed on the product alert website for the DACH region.
Warning about affected feed types
The company strongly advises against feeding affected foods to animals. If pet owners have already used dry food, they should monitor their animals closely. If complaints such as diarrhea, vomiting or fever occur, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian immediately.
The incubation period is usually 48 hours, in rare cases up to three days. Small animals, immunocompromised or older animals in particular may show more severe symptoms.
