Operation in Germany – man with child shot at police from his home

Date:

A large police force, including special forces, has been active in the German state of Brandenburg for about 24 hours – a man with a child is said to have shot from a building. Emergency services arrived at 1:45 pm on Friday in the Vieritz district, located in the village of Milower Land, about 20 kilometers northwest of Brandenburg an der Havel.

According to initial findings, four people were in a house there in the afternoon: the suspect and another man, but also the child and his mother. She is said to have left the house at night and handed the child over to youth care.

The man is still in the building
An arrest was also made late Friday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the West police announced on Saturday. One of the men came out of the house with a firearm and was overpowered by the police. According to the information, no one was injured. According to the spokeswoman, the other man is still in the building. The shots were said to have been fired by him.

Talk about an explosion in front of the house
A dpa reporter reported an explosion in front of the house on Saturday afternoon. An armored vehicle drove towards the building. When asked, the police initially did not want to confirm access. According to the information, there was a decision by the court, at the proposal of the youth care office. Dozens of rescue workers and numerous police vehicles remained at the scene on Saturday.

The background to the incident is unclear
Due to an alleged risk to the child’s welfare, special police units were also deployed to the site in the Milower Land district, and police officers from Berlin were also called in to provide support. The exact background of the incident remained unclear. A police spokesperson initially did not want to provide details about the armed person this morning.

Residents must stay in their homes
The main street of the town and the residential area in which the building is located have largely been cordoned off. Neighbors were asked not to leave their homes. Residents who wanted to enter the area from outside were turned away and asked to find other accommodation or places to stay because police needed “room to maneuver.”

The municipality of Milower Land has approximately 4,400 inhabitants, of which approximately 300 live in the Vieritz district, located on Brandenburg’s western border with Saxony-Anhalt.
