This turtle had to wait a long time: after 1,579 days, a new home was finally found for “Elon the musk turtle”.
For anyone wondering: Yes, the animal is actually named after tech billionaire Elon Musk, animal welfare organization RSPCA confirms. The musk turtle is a friendly fellow and easy to care for, although representatives of its species can often bite and stink. The latter too, because they can emit a foul odor via scent glands on the edge of their shell to deter predators.
After about four years, a house has now been found, the organization announced. A reptile sanctuary in Brighton, southern England, has been caring for the common musk turtle since the pandemic.
Because the animals can live up to 60 years, this is a long-term commitment, so the right environment was required.
Musk campaigned for jailed right-wing extremists
Recently it wasn’t the turtle that made headlines in Britain, but entrepreneur Elon Musk. The advisor to future American president Donald Trump criticized the British government several times on his Platform X and, among other things, supported an imprisoned right-wing extremist.
