Horrible winter sports accident on Saturday in the Tyrolean Zillertal: a German skier lost control of the steering wheel on a steep slope, literally flew over the piste and crashed with full force into a wooden shed. The man was injured and had to be flown to hospital by emergency helicopter.
The fatal accident took place on a red marked slope in the Eggalm ski area in the municipality of Tux. The 30-year-old holidaymaker from Lower Saxony lost control of his skis during the descent, after which he went over the edge of the piste at “high speed” at the end of a steep slope, police said.
A few meters away from the track, the young man crashed into a wooden shed, which, according to the investigator, was “secured with protective padding to a height of two meters”, almost without braking.
By helicopter to the hospital
The 30-year-old suffered significant injuries to his back as a result of the violent blow. After initial treatment at the scene of the accident by the pister rescue team, he was flown to the district hospital in Schwaz by the emergency medical helicopter “Alpin5”.
