Deadly traffic accident Saturday morning in the Tyrolean lowlands: A Romanian (23) came with his van in Hopfgarten (Kitzbühel district) into the oncoming lane and collided with a minibus with full force. The suspect who caused the accident suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The other driver and his companion escaped with minor injuries.
The serious accident happened just after 6:30 a.m. The Romanian was driving his van on B170 Brixentalstraße when, for reasons unknown, he came into the oncoming lane in Hopfgarten.
Freed from the car with a mountain scissors
There was a violent collision with the minibus of an approaching German (59). “The Romanian was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by the fire brigade with rescue scissors,” said the police.
Injured taken to hospitals
The young man suffered serious injuries in the collision. After receiving first aid at the scene of the accident, he was taken by ambulance to Kufstein Hospital. The driver of the minibus and his passenger (21) suffered minor injuries – they were taken to hospital in St. Johann.
Both vehicles sustained massive damage. The B170 was completely blocked in the vicinity of the accident site for about an hour.
