“Till death do you part” – Josef S. (71) from Ebensee took that literally. The divorced retiree from Ebensee had had his own apartment since January 5 and was finally going to move out of the house of his wife who is ten years his junior. He did not want that, and that was apparently the reason for the bloody act that kept Ebensee in suspense on Saturday morning.
The sports shooter, musician and fisherman tried to kill his wife in the upstairs ironing room around 9 a.m. with three shots from his small-caliber rifle. But he only suffered a glancing blow to the head. The victim was able to take the gun from the perpetrator and flee with it.

The bloodied woman threw the gun away outside and drove to the police, where she filed a report. When the Cobra tried to gain access two hours later, the officers found Josef S. dead in the garage. He committed suicide there. An autopsy was ordered Monday to confirm the cause of death.
“Our dismay is great. You read about this stuff all the time. But when something like this happens in your own city, it is very different,” says Ebensee Mayor Sabine Promberger.
