Numerous rescue workers were on duty at a secondary school in Baden (Lower Austria) on Wednesday morning due to increased concentrations of irritating gas. A total of 13 students were injured and received emergency medical care.
Several emergency physicians treated the injured students at the Frauengasse secondary school, who had symptoms such as scratching in the throat, nose and throat area.
Seven students were taken to hospital by emergency helicopter.
Building evacuated
Police and fire brigades were also on site to evacuate the building containing approximately 800 students and 80 teachers.
Possible student joke
The police currently do not believe it is an attack, but a student prank. High school activities were suspended for the remainder of the day.
The fire brigade took measurements in the building. An increased concentration of irritating gas was found.
