Members of the Kakitzat antimilitarist collective They gathered this Wednesday in Bilbao, in front of the headquarters of the Spanish government’s sub-delegation in Bizkaia, in protest at the NATO summit being held in Madrid these days.
A dozen members of the group, some dressed as gravediggers or “dead”, remained in Plaza Moyua for half an hour without incident.
With a sign that read “hiltzaileak”, the anti-militarists demonstrated against the Atlantic Allianceand have called for “military spending” to be earmarked for schools and hospitals.
Similarly, Kakitza has condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraineand demanded the cessation of sending weapons and troops into the country.
They recalled from the group that 36 years ago, in the referendum on Spain’s accession to NATO, the voters of Euskadi and Navarra voted “no” by a majority.
