She was repeatedly threatened with murder and had to hire a security service. After that, a doctor in Seewalchen in Upper Austria closed her practice and now has financial problems.
This case made headlines all over Austria: Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, a GP in Seewalchen, has been facing death threats for months by radical opponents of vaccination. She had her practice converted for fear of an attack and has employed a security service for months. “The practice is brand new. I have taken out a loan. The security service alone costs me 3,500 euros per month,” she says.
“I can not anymore”
But now, as reported, she is drawing a line for the time being. The practice has been closed since Tuesday. “I can’t take it anymore,” says Kellermayr. The pressure is too great. And now there are concerns about the future to add to the fear: “I am on the brink of personal bankruptcy. But I will pay my employees as long as there is money,” she promises. For legal reasons, she is not allowed to collect donations.
Help from the Medical Association
The president of the Medical Association, Peter Niedermoser, assures her support: “I am in constant contact with my colleague. Together we look for a solution.” She doesn’t have to worry about losing her health insurance contract due to bankruptcy.
