The Mexican prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation and will work with the US Department of Homeland Security to investigate the matter.

Three people have been arrested for their alleged relationship with the deaths of 51 immigrants who suffocated on a truck in San Antonio, Texas, United States.
Federal authorities have reported the arrest of Homero Zamorano, 45, who allegedly left the truck in a deserted area. Zamorano has known homes in Houston and in the Rio Grande Valley.
“He was badly affected by methamphetamine when he was arrested. He had to be taken to a hospital,” said a person in charge of the security forces quoted by the newspaper. San Antonio Express
Two individuals associated with Zamorano were later arrested for illegal possession of weapons and illegal residence in the country. The arrests took place in Bexar County and those arrested are Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao and Juan Claudio D’Luna-Méndez.
For his part, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has announced that the Attorney General of the Republic has launched an investigation into the deaths of these 51 people.
Mexican authorities will cooperate with the United States Department of Homeland Security’s investigation into what is already one of the deadliest migration-related incidents to have occurred on the Mexico-United States border.
In 2017, at least 10 migrants died after getting trapped in a truck parked in a shopping center in San Antonio. In 2003, 19 migrants were found dead in a truck in very high temperatures near the same city.
