Police officers in the US state of Florida only accidentally discovered a vehicle that had ended up in a canal. At the last minute, the driver – a pregnant woman – was rescued from the car.
The fiery incident took place in Palm Bay. Police were on their way to a broken power line nearby when they saw the vehicle in the canal.
The occupant made himself known by making knocking noises and the officers didn’t hesitate long: body camera footage shows them stepping into the water and pulling the woman out of the car. ‘You weren’t even thinking. “They literally went into life-saving mode to save this pregnant woman,” Officer Jamie Copenhaver told local media.
The woman cried in shock as she stepped onto the beach. She narrowly escaped death: If the officers had been warned about the power line just a few minutes later or if they had been stuck in traffic, “the outcome would certainly have been different,” Copenhaver said.
