Gruesome discovery during firefighting work on Monday evening in Vienna-Hietzing: Fire brigade troops discovered a charred corpse in a small garden shed in Lainz.
The incident took place on Lainzer Strasse around 9 p.m. A passerby noticed the fire in the house opposite and alerted the police. When the uniformed troops arrived, the small garden hut, which was located in the courtyard of an empty building, was already completely on fire. Due to the enormous heat, the roof of the adjacent building also caught fire.
Terrible find
Fire extinguishing work began immediately, forcing the helpers to make a shocking discovery. They found the remains of a person who had been burned beyond recognition.
There were no other injuries to complain about, the Vienna Fire Department said. 27 forces with six vehicles were deployed.
Autopsy ordered, investigation ongoing
The identity of the fire victim is now under investigation. An autopsy was requested by the police. It must also be clear how the fire could have started. Fire investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the investigation.
